When in Manali

1. Do nothing. Just Be....

Sketch, read, write, hike, eat a leisurely local meal, sit at a café, and aimlessly take photographs. Explore and enjoy the tranquil nature park and vast pine forest that we are surrounded by.

2. Local Manali sight-seeing

Take a walk up to the Hadimba temple. It's a simple walk through the dense deodar forest along the Beas River, with a flock of birds following you. It's difficult to believe the road is only a few meters away. To get your adrenaline pumping, spend some time in Solang Valley. Naggar Palace is well preserved and will satisfy the history buff in you. Aside from that, don't forget to be an explorer in Manali. Look past the obvious. There are numerous trails all around Manali, and if one looks appealing, just ask a local about it. Determine where it leads and how simple or difficult it is. And, armed with this insight, simply follow your heart. After all, that is what travel is all about.

3. Visit the Rohtang Pass

Make a day of your trip to Manali to visit the Rohtang Pass. Be taken aback by the lush green, winding roads that gradually lead to snow. The snow never melts in some areas of the Rohtang Pass. That is, what you see and hold in your hands could be ancient snow. Let your inner child out as you play in the snow.

4. Listen to Beas sing

The Beas River flows through Manali and is likely to dominate the landscape during your stay. You can sip your morning tea while perched on the lawns above the river, listening to the birds sing. Enjoy this relaxing time with your family, partner, or just by yourself. Open a book and get lost in it, just as the mountains do in the clouds. Alternatively, pack your belongings and head down to the river for some rafting action.

5. Pluck your own fruits

Peaches, plums, cherries, strawberries, and litchis all give way to apples, which come in every colour you can imagine. That means there's always a fruit ready for you to enjoy in Manali. You can arrange a visit to a fruit orchard or explore the fruit markets, which are busy transporting fruits all over the country during the summer months.

6. Cleanse yourself in the Himalayan Spa

The hot water springs of Vashisht are located on the outskirts of Manali, where you can detoxify yourself naturally amidst the pristine forests. Or, if you want to make a day of it, travel all the way to Manikaran, a religious site for both Hindus and Sikhs. In the piping-hot medicated waters, you can rejuvenate yourself.

7. A day trip to Parvati Valley

Begin early in the morning in Manali. Make your way through Kullu, Bhuntar, and the Parvati Valley. The scenery here can easily turn a 3-hour drive into an 8-hour photo-op trip. As you travel deeper into the Parvati valley, the road gradually ascends. Stone houses with flat slate roofs begin to appear. There are a few tourist hubs here, such as Kasol and Malana, as well as many multi-day Himalayan treks, such as the Chanderkhani. These quick stop-and-go trips are not something we usually recommend. Parvati Valley is worth a long journey on its own. But, if you've just returned from a long, exhausting trip to Ladakh or Spiti, or if you're just pumped up enough to venture beyond Manali, we say, why not? Take the plunge. You can continue on to Manikaran or the road's end at Pulga. Remember that you must return, and driving in the dark is not recommended. Don’t make safety secondary while you are having all the fun.
